In remote communities, access to laundry services can be limited and cost prohibitive. Coen is a small town located in the central Cape York Peninsula region of Far North Queensland, Australia – located 550kms North of Cairns. Orange Sky’s Coen service works alongside the community to build impact through free laundry facilities, local employment and local partnerships. We are grateful to the Traditional Custodians – the Kaanju, Lama Lama, Ayapathu, Umpila, Wik-Mungkan, and Olkolo peoples – our community partner, Coen Regional Aboriginal Corporation, and Coen residents for allowing Orange Sky to provide the community with a safe and respectful place for laundry and connection. Key things to know about Coen Launched in October 2025 Providing free laundry and conversation Operated by dedicated local employees Remote Vehicle Our Remote Vehicle 3.0 (RV3.2) brings essential laundry services to remote Australian communities. Designed for rugged conditions, it features three washers and Waru Dryers, and uses advanced solar technology to enhance service reach effectively. Displayed proudly on the van are the totems of each traditional owner group. The shields, which are traditionally used in dance ceremonies by each clan group, were made into stickers and placed on the van when the service began, as a way to hand the asset over to the community.
