The Palm Island Community Company (PICC) Bwgcolman Healing Service provides a range of medical and clinical services to the Manbarra and Bwgcolman peoples of Palm Island. Bwgcolman Healing services are delivered by a dedicated team of Doctors, Health Workers, Nurses, Visiting Specialists, Allied Health Professionals, Administration Officers and Transport Officers. PICC encourages all Palm Islanders of all ages to see their Doctor for a yearly Health Check (715) but to also visit the Doctor for any concerns about the health and wellbeing of you and your family. A 715 Health Check takes about 45 minutes to complete, you’ll be screened by a local Health Worker and then seen by your Doctor, they’ll perform blood sugar, blood pressure, pathology, skin check, eye check and hearing assessment. Book your Health Check (715) today by calling 4445 4401 or ask one of our team to book your appointment the next time you’re in the clinic. Clinic Consultation Costs PICC is a bulk billing practice, visits to your Doctor are FREE with no out-of-pocket expenses for anyone who holds an Australian Medicare Card. Fees do apply to people who do not hold an Australian Medicare card, and for appointments such as work-related medicals and some specialist tests. For persons not eligible to be bulk billed, consultation fees will be equivalent to Medicare bulk billing rates. Any out-of-pocket expense will always be explained fully so that patients can make informed decisions about any costs that may be incurred in accessing care. PICC is committed to providing quality healthcare and services while also ensuring transparency concerning any associated costs outside of bulk billing arrangements. Patient Transport A free transport service is available for you to attend your appointments with your Doctor. If you need transport, please let the receptionist know and we’ll arrange for you to be picked up and dropped home safely. PICC also offers a complimentary transport service to enable patients without transport to access medical and clinical care as needed. This service aims to ensure that all patients have equal access to medical care, regardless of their transportation situation. These include: Practice Nurses Aboriginal Health Workers Aboriginal Health Practitioners Podiatrist Dietitian/Diabetic Educator Physiotherapist Optometrist Audiologist Exercise Physiologist Occupational Therapist Speech Pathologist Psychologist (Adults, Youth and Children) Visiting Specialist Services Various specialists visit PICC to support the comprehensive patient care; these include: Endocrinologist Paediatrician Cardiologists (Adults and Paediatric) – adult services include cardiac echo, stress testing and sleep testing Nephrologist Pain Specialist A qualified psychologist also maintains direct links with the visiting Psychiatrist for specialist mental health care Integrated Team Care (ITC) Program The ITC Program aims to contribute to improving the health outcomes for people living with chronic health conditions through access to care coordination, multidisciplinary care, and support for self-management to stay living independently at home for as long as possible.Who is eligible? Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people Must have one or more of the following chronic conditions Must have had a 715 in the last 12 months Must a current Care Plan within the last 3–6 months Doctor’s referral must include the above criteria Sexual Health Services PICC Doctors and Health Workers help to raise awareness about sexual and reproductive health, this includes: Treatments and follow up Free condoms Contact Tracing Free pregnancy testing PAP Smears Contraception advice Contraception devices Implanon, Intra Uterine Device (IUD), Mirena insertion and removals Hepatitis Gender specific reproductive sexual health education and information Having a sexual health check is good way to test, treat and manage any infections or blood borne viruses. Testing may include urine and/or blood testing and an examination by your Doctor where symptoms may be present. You can also ask your Doctor any questions about sexual health.
