Oh yeah. What, what, um, what was it like for yourself? The storm? It was all right. Um, it was alright. And what was what, how do you spell your name again? Sorry, brother Clay. CLAY. CLAY. Yeah. And what's your last name? Clay. Yeah. Alfred. Alfred, yeah. Alfred. Yeah. Um, name was right. Maybe. So that's just the normal one you got on?
Power went out. I had my generator set up. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just go. What about the rest of them or the community? All people. A lot of people haven't got generators, so Yeah. They're not set up that way. Yeah. But, um, I try and keep myself prepared. Yeah. Extra food, lighting. Uh, as long as I got my generator to run in the fridge.
In the freezer, yeah. I'm happy with that. Yeah. Yeah. I'm pretty, how do you reckon all them fellas and all the, from the men's group there, were they all right? Yeah. Yeah. A lot of 'em. I didn't have any Well, like food situation [00:01:00] too. The, yeah. Coverage became beer and, uh, yeah. Shop there. Um, um, but I, I manage, you know, yeah.
I mean, I, I try and keep myself prepared. Yeah. Um, and uh, and um, make sure I got extra food and all that. Yeah. That's good. Yeah. And how long have you been doing the men's group stuff for? I've been doing. I know. Five years or something. Yeah. Far out. And it sounds like you had your own little story of recovery and life.
Oh yeah, definitely. Yeah, definitely. I used to drink and carry on, like do all that. Yeah. But I stopped drinking now. So what do you reckon made you stop? What was the Getting locked up? Getting going? True. Um, getting sick from drinking and, mm-hmm. Yeah. I'm tired of living like that. Mm-hmm. Yeah. How do you think though all the men are going here with their journeys?
Is it up and down and seasons? Up and [00:02:00] down, up and down, up and down? Sometime it get a bit hard for people to change. Here on the island you have to like get away from here to do that. There's too much distraction. Mm. Uh, on the island, so, but I believe you have to get away from me to do that. Yeah. What, what are some of the better places where men go who are struggling with alcohol and drugs?
Well, there's rehabs in Townsville. Yeah. Yeah. At St. Pole Street and, uh, St. Vincent Newport, they got a rehab. Yeah. Um, going to any one of those places can, can help you, uh, get off the road and change your life. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah. Salvation Army got one. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um, and what else is happening on the island?
What do you, how do you keep yourself busy? Uh, I do stuff at home. I, I, uh, over time I got tools. I, I wood and, and not from, um, [00:03:00] building sites. Yeah. And make stuff, make tables, chairs, whatever, you know? Yeah. Whatever. I just like doing. It's cool. That's cool. And what do you do with it? You just keep it or you sell it or give it away to people?
Yeah. Yeah. I just make it and that's cool. And give it away. Must have some good tools. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I got tools there. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. And do men, do they get, um, referred to the men's group or do they just come as they want to or how's that all? No, they get repaired by the. Correct. Corrective services. Ah, really?
Okay. Yeah. Yeah. But some of them come because they wanna be part of something. Yep. They come too. People who just come off the street. I don't mind. Yeah. Yeah. As long as they learn some things. And who supports the manuscript? Is it pick that, support it or pick Yeah, pick, yeah. It's a healing program. Sorry.
